Possession

Possession

When they saw me walking down the corridor with it in my hands, everyone walked on the opposite side of the corridor to me. I got to my next lesson and my teacher told me to dispose of it and never go near it again. How could something so small be so harmful? I ignored my teacher's advice and went home with it in my pocket. I had found it in the canteen on the floor at school. I had thought that someone dropped it. I showed my Grandma it and she instantly recognised it as her own.

She sat me down at the kitchen table and told me the full story. Her great-great grandmother owned a ring, the same one I had in my possession. She said that her family had owned the ring for generations and then it had vanished after her dad's death. I then thought maybe the ring had something to do with his death. After all it did vanish right after he died.

Later on the ring had to be gone, but weird things were happening. My younger sister never came home and my mum was acting very strange. I took the ring to our local jewellers and he examined it. He told me that it was made in 1887 with a three dimensional queen's head. He then explained the truth. Back in 1887, when the ring was made, one of our ancestor's bought the ring and gave it to his wife, although his spirit was trapped in there because someone had put a curse on it. He was trying to still get the family fortune for only him.

I took the ring back to school the next day and tried to help my ancestor, along with my two friends. We learnt that he had a fear of being rejected and losing the family fortune, which was in fact the ring. When my Grandma's dad put the ring on, the spirit thought that he was trying to take the fortune and killed him. I explained to the spirit that I was family and that I was trying to keep the ring safe. He allowed that to happen and let anyone who I gave my permission to to touch the ring. The spirit was finally set free after 300 years of waiting.
